Artist Statement

My paintings explore the philosophical paradox of control and freedom, intellect and intuition, reason and emotion, omnipotence and free will. Is it possible to exercise control by allowing other factors to act independently? Is life a grabbing on or a letting go?
In all my work I aim to achieve a goal by relinquishing control through spattered paint, scattered objects, random occurrences. After successive layerings, the primary colors mix by themselves and the painting emerges with a will of its own.
